FAQ

FAQ

When is camp? CSJ will take place from Monday, August 11 through Saturday, August 16.

What are the ages for summer camp? Campers can be ages 9-17 years old. Those 18 and older are invited to apply as staff member.

Where is camp located? CSJ is hosted at Camp Mah-Kee-Nac located at 6 Hawthorne Rd, Lenox, MA 01240. We rent this facility for the week, so no correspondence should be sent to the rental facility. Camp Mah-Kee-Nac’s facility and program is accredited by the American Camp Association and we will rent the facility the week after their program ends.

What do my campers need to pack? A packing list is included in the Camper Parent Handbook.

What is a typical day at camp like? A day at camp is full of activities from morning through night. Wakeup is around 7 am each day. After getting ready and cleaning the cabin, we begin each day in prayer as a camp community.

What services do you hold at camp? Typically, we have Matins in the morning and Vespers in the evening. Some days we will celebrate the Paraklesis to the Theotokos, and on August 15, we will celebrate the Divine Liturgy for the Feast of the Dormition.

Where do the campers stay? Campers are assigned to cabins according to gender and age. We do not accept cabinmate requests. Each cabin has 10-15 beds with a private bathroom in each cabin. Some cabins have showers in the cabins, while other cabins will use a shower house (with private showers in it) a short walk from the cabin.

Who supervises the campers? The campers will be assigned to cabins in groups of 7-10 campers of the same gender and age group. Each cabin group will have 1-2 counselors (typically college age students) who have participated in our staff training, and many of whom have had previous experience on staff at the Antiochian Village and other Orthodox camps.

Is there medical staff onsite? Yes, a medical professional will be on site all week for our camp. Each camper must complete their health history as part of registration, and all medications will be turned in to our Health Center at check-in. Our medical staff will distribute any medications as indicated by the prescribing physician on the original medication container, and be available to treat any basic first aid conditions that arise.

Will I be able to contact or see my child during camp? Because of the short duration of camp (only 6 days!) and the business of the daily schedule, we do not allow visitors or phone calls home during the camp session. We ask that you keep all electronics (including phones, smartwatches, etc.) at home, or else they will be collected at check-in. Each day we will post photos to our social media page as well as SmugMug so you can follow along with what is happening at camp. If there are any medical issues that arise, the Camp Director or Medical Staff will contact the parents. So rest assured, “no news is good news!”

What is the check-in and check-out process? Registration will be on Monday morning August 11, and departure will be on Saturday morning August 16. More details will be posted soon with the exact times.

Are there scholarships available for campers in financial need? Those campers that are in need of financial assistance should speak to their parish priest to see if the parish can assist in anyway. There are limited scholarships available from the Diocese Council as well. Please see the Financial Aid request form on the website.

How do I register my camper? Here is the link to our online registration. We use the same registration software as the rest of the camps in the Archdiocese so if your child has attended the Antiochian Village or any of the Antiochian camp programs, you already have a login for the system. How much does camp cost? The one week tuition is $575 per camper.
